Taylor Swift has arrived in Sydney on her private jet, a few days ahead of her run of four shows at Accor Stadium from this Friday.
Swift was spotted boarding her jet at Melbourne Airport on Monday morning after three sold-out shows at the MCG, all of which, at 96,000 each, were the biggest concerts she has ever played.
She landed at Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport at 1.25pm, amid a torrential downpour that caused delays elsewhere at the airport. According to the flight tracking website, FlightRadar24, Swift’s flight was half an hour late.
Despite the bad weather, a few die-hard Swift fans tried to get a glimpse of their hero. Unfortunately, Swift was ushered into a private car and left the airport before fans were able to see her.
Among the crowd was eight-year-old Vivienne Garrett, who brought her guitar along in the hope she might impress Swift with a rendition of her hit, Cruel Summer.
“I love Cruel Summer, and I was hoping to play a bit of it for her today, but I didn’t get a chance to see her,” said Vivienne.
Vivienne and her mother, Brooke, are among thousands of Sydneysiders who missed out on tickets to Swift’s four sold-out Sydney dates.
“We were waiting, and we saw the plane pull up, but we didn’t get to see her; the pilot saw half her leg apparently, but then she was ushered into the car, so we didn’t get our moment,” said Brooke.
“We couldn’t get tickets, we tried so hard, and today was our big shot at seeing her, but unfortunately, we couldn’t make it happen.”
After landing, Swift is expected to be taken to a penthouse at Crown in Barangaroo before taking in the sights of Sydney before her first show on Friday night. On Monday morning, she took to social media to thank the Melbourne crowd.
Accor Stadium and the surrounding area have been cleared of asbestos concerns, after extensive testing on mulch.
“All of our tests at Olympic Park are negative, and I can say with certainty that the Harbour City is ready to welcome Taylor Swift with open arms,” the NSW Environment Protection Authority chief executive Tony Chappel said on Sunday.
