“I was going the wrong way”: Taylor Swift Wanted a Journalist to Write About a Skill that Had Nothing to Do with Her Music Only for it to Backfire

Taylor Swift had an incredible year, as she established herself as the best entertainer of 2023.

The 12-time Grammy award winner, however, isn’t a very good driver.
In 2012, she was involved in two car accidents while spending time with journalist Brian Hiatt.
In 2023, Taylor Swift showed she’s talented enough to shine bright like a diamond (Sorry, Rihanna) in different fields. The pop superstar topped the list of Spotify’s most streamed artists of 2023 by managing more than 26.1 billion streams around the world.

To be fair, that didn’t surprise many. However, she did raise plenty of eyebrows after her concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour enjoyed great success at the box office, grossing $261.6 million globally. That’s nearly $50 million more than The Marvels’ worldwide collection.

A few years ago, Swift tried to show off her talents in another field – albeit this time she failed miserably.

How Taylor Swift’s Plan to Impress A Journalist Backfired
Taylor Swift appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman in 2012 to talk about her fourth studio album, Red. During the interview, the singer-songwriter detoured a little and shared a hilarious story that involved two car accidents in a day.

Swift revealed she was spending time with Brian Hiatt for Rolling Stone‘s latest cover story. The 12-time Grammy award winner greatly appreciated Hiatt’s writing, and hence thought of impressing him with her driving skills. Accordingly, the Bad Blood singer decided to drive both of them to a restaurant.

She assured him that she’s a safe driver, and hoped “maybe he’ll write about what a safe driver I am.” While attempting a U-turn, she backed up “a tiny bit,” only to hit another car.

Swift started to freak out, but Hiatt remained calm and asked her to “chill”. Later, a car “that was like made out of bits of five other cars” blindsided her car, hitting them in the side.

This time, even the writer lost his cool and started to freak out. As per the pop queen, Hiatt thanked her for saving his life. Though, that part didn’t end up in his story.

Taylor Swift Created History in 2023 With TIME’s Honor
Back to focusing on what Swift does best: entertain the world. In December of 2023, Swift was named TIME’s 2023 Person of the Year.

The incredible honor made her the first entertainer to be named Person of the Year as an individual. The 34-year-old also became the first woman to appear twice on a Person of the Year cover since the franchise began in 1927.
