BREAKING: John Legend Criticises Former President Trump in Newly Surfaced Footage

Award-winning singer John Legend is at the centre of controversy after newly surfaced footage shows him labelling former President Donald Trump a “bigot.”

Legend, who has been outspoken about his political views alongside his wife, Chrissy Teigen, previously described Trump as a “dyed-in-the-wool racist” during his presidency. Trump, in turn, publicly criticised the couple, calling Legend a “boring musician” and Teigen “filthy-mouthed” following a 2019 social media dispute.

The newly released footage captures Legend speaking at The Fifteen Percent Pledge’s 15th Street Block Party in Hollywood this past February. Addressing the crowd, he remarked:
“America made a decision that I strongly disagree with, and it seems we are now facing the consequences.”

During the event, a moderator asked Legend why he believed Trump had “latched onto diversity” issues, with a banner behind them reading “DEI is more than just a headline.” Legend responded candidly:
“He’s a bigot. He subscribes to the belief that racial groups exist in a hierarchy, and he views his own group as genetically superior.”

Legend continued, criticising Trump’s approach to leadership and diversity:
“Whenever he talks about competence and qualifications, any white man will do for him.”

Drawing comparisons between past and present leadership appointments, Legend referenced former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, a highly decorated four-star general, and Pete Hegseth, a Trump appointee:
“You had a supremely qualified Black leader, and then look at who followed. That speaks volumes about the level of bigotry we’re witnessing.”

The video quickly ignited debate across social media. Trump supporters denounced Legend’s remarks, with some suggesting legal action and others accusing the singer of contributing to national division. One user commented, “Only a Democrat could call Trump divisive and then turn around and call MAGA supporters white supremacists.” Another added, “If Trump had made similar remarks, it would dominate media headlines.”

However, Legend also received considerable praise. Supporters applauded his courage, with comments such as, “John Legend has so much class and intelligence—his voice is needed now more than ever,” and “He’s 100% correct.”

As the footage continues to circulate, it highlights the ongoing polarisation surrounding political discourse in America, and the growing role public figures play in shaping these conversations.
