Trump’s Middle East Tour: President Visits Qatar Following Meeting with Syrian Leader in Saudi Arabia
In a historic diplomatic development, President Donald Trump visited Syria, meeting with President Bashar al-Assad for the first time in over two decades of U.S.–Syrian relations. This marked a significant moment during Trump’s current Middle East tour—his first international trip since beginning his second term.
Following the meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he received a warm welcome from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump announced the formal lifting of long-standing economic sanctions against Syria. The decision drew a standing ovation from Saudi officials and was met with praise from the Syrian government, which described the event as “historic.”
As part of his regional itinerary, Trump arrived in Doha, Qatar, where he was greeted with ceremonial fanfare, including traditional camel displays and a fleet of futuristic red Cybertrucks.
According to Syrian state media, the two leaders discussed cooperative strategies for regional stability. The Syrian Foreign Ministry stated that Trump had pledged continued U.S. support during what they called “a critical juncture” for the country.
