Sha’Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman Poised for Olympic History
Olympic silver medalist Sha’Carri Richardson and her partner, world champion sprinter Christian Coleman, could soon make Olympic history as a potential sprint duo for Team USA at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
In a landmark move, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved the inclusion of a 4x100m mixed relay event, allowing male and female sprinters to compete together on the same team. This development was confirmed by the IOC Executive Board on April 9, 2025, and represents a significant evolution in Olympic track and field competitions.
While mixed-gender events have previously been introduced, such as the mixed 4x400m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, this will mark the first time the 4x100m relay includes both men and women on the same team. Given that both Richardson and Coleman specialize in this distance, the opportunity aligns perfectly with their strengths.
As the 2028 Games are set to take place on U.S. soil in Los Angeles, anticipation is growing for what could be a memorable moment for American track and field.
